Log Into Amazon AWS

Follow the steps in this section if you are NOT already logged into AWS.

• Open a browser and then go to https://aws.amazon.com/console/.
• Click the orange Log back in button.
• Type in your password into the Password field.
• Click the Sign In button.
• Open Google Authenticator on your phone.
• Type in the authentication code for Amazon Web Services into the Authentication Code field.
• Click the Sign In button.

Setup a CIS Hardened Image for Your New EC2 Instance

• Open a new tab in your browser and then go to https://www.cisecurity.org/cis-hardened-images/amazon/.
• Click on the Launch link where it says CIS Ubuntu Linux 20.04 LTS Benchmark Launch.
• Scroll down and then click the Region drop-down menu.
• Select a region that close to you.
• Make sure that the Fulfillment Option drop-down menu has 64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI) selected.
• In the table to the right of the Software Pricing Details, click on the t2.medium radio button.
• Scroll to the top of the page and then click the Continue to Subscribe button.
• Read the Terms and Conditions.
• If you agree to the Terms and Conditions, then click the Accept Terms button.
